About WGM Elena Chess school:

WGM Elena school is a special place for giften and interested in chess children to achieve maximum success in chess and education. Elena doesn’t set a goal of training for chess mastership but rather using chess as educational tool to enhance primary education and develop natural abilities of each child.  At the same time the children who are interested in competing in chess tournaments will get  best available help on how to improve and prepare for chess competition. These two goals cannot be completely separated and they both help the child to learn how to compete, develop critical thinking, memory, pattern recognition, as well as work well under stress, take defeat with a grace and to respect friends and opponents.

The Chess School is using WGM Elena’s  Chess Academy curriculum http://www.chessplayer.com/view_workbooks.php that Elena developed several years ago when she was teaching chess to her son Nicholas Orlov since he was pre-K student (since 4.5 y.o.). He became highest ranked (ever) 2nd grader in WA state with rating 1600 and came #2 at the US National Chess Championship in 2005. Many Elena’s other students came at the top places at the Nationals, most recent Nathaniel Yee from UCDS school who also took 2nd place at US Nationals December 2007. He is a 2nd grader rated almost 1400+.  13 of WGM Elena school students (1200+) qualified to Tournament of Champions by winning 5 out of 5 in Open local tournaments http://www.chessplayer.com/champions.htm  It takes a year for WGM Elena students to reach 1000+ level.

It is demanding curriculum, and students will have to do homework and follow WGM Elena’s instructions. But one thing is for sure: it is not a random success, all students who want - make it to Champions.
